Thank you for your interest in the US 1 Corridor Feasibility Study!
The Central Midlands Council of Governments (CMCOG) aims to address accommodations for growth and change along US 1. The project extent of 6.6 miles starts at Spears Creek Church Road / Bookman Road (S-53) and ends at Watts Hill Road (S-575). Your feedback is integral to the corridor’s continued success.
Corridor Challenges
Horizontal Curvature

Inadequate Clear Zones
Poor Sight Distance at Intersections
Traffic Congestion
Few Left-Turn Lanes
Parallel Railroad

Significant Planned Residential Development
Land Use Variations (Downtown Elgin vs Suburban)

Pedestrian Connectivity

The US 1 corridor within the study area limits carries 13,200 vehicles, with 3-5% heavy trucks. With numerous residential and commercial developments planned in the coming years, it is a crucial time for CMCOG to prepare for the future of this corridor.
CMCOG is aiming to reduce crashes and traffic congestion along the corridor while minimizing right-of-way impacts. The project team, led by AECOM, is engaging the public, coordinating with stakeholders, gathering and analyzing land use and traffic data, and providing recommended alternatives to address the issues within the project extent.
